The city
Pesaro is the ideal destination for those who want to relax without giving up fun and cultural itineraries. The tour of the town can start from the beautiful Piazza del Popolo, the heart of the historical center, from where you can already admire our blue sea in the distance. Here the splendid seventeenth-century fountain in pink marble with its tritons, stems and seahorses is overlooked by the Palazzo Ducale, today the seat of the Prefecture, but which in the past was the residence of the Sforza and Della Rovere families.

Continuing your walk through the town streets you will reach on your right the birthplace of the famous composer Gioacchino Rossini, which currently hosts a small museum, must-see for classical music lovers. Proceeding towards the sea, you can admire the Cathedral of very ancient origins, which rises on the area previously occupied by two early Christian basilicas. The cathedral is famous for its remarkable mosaic floor, one of the most beautiful and large in Italy. Other noteworthy monuments in the center are the ancient fortress Rocca Costanza, the Rossini Theatre, the Civic Museums, the Music Conservatory “G.Rossini”, located in a splendid eighteenth-century palace built thanks to the famous composer’s heritage, and many churches such as Sant'Agostino and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie. Keeping on walking you will get to Piazzale della Libertà. This beautiful square facing the sea, with its characteristic large sphere in the middle, created by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, can be considered the centre of summer fun. Pesaro is also home to the Rossini Opera Festival, which every year offers a philological reading of the composer’s famous works. The most beautiful voices, the most successful directors as well as the most competent and prestigious audiences usually meet here. Finally, Pesaro is not only a tourist resort, but also offers all the amenities of a major urban centre, including shopping streets, cinemas and theatres.
